10 Best Fighting Games On Steam

It's no surprise that, as the primary marketplace for PC games, Steam has a wide variety of fighting games to choose from. Whether you're looking for a 2D anime style, popular 3D fighters, or rosters full of familiar characters, Steam has an option for you. 10/10 Dragon Ball FighterZ
It was only a matter of time until a 2D Dragon Ball fighting game was made, and Arc System Works delivered with Dragon Ball FighterZ. FighterZ is a three vs. three fighting game featuring assists, taking inspiration from the Marvel Vs. Capcom series. For a series with as many iconic characters as Dragon Ball, this format works excellently, though the amount of Gokus in the game may have been a little overboard. FighterZ is a game that plays very well, but looks even better; using a 2.5D cell-shaded style, it looks as if you’re playing an episode of the show. If you’re a fan of Dragon Ball, you owe it to yourself to give this game a shot. 9/10 Multiversus
The cast of Multiversus Few major platform fighters can maintain the same status as Super Smash Bros., but Player First Games has been working to meet that standard with Multiversus. Featuring a roster spanning many generations of Warner Bros. Characters, Multiversus is one of the biggest crossover games ever made. One of Multiversus’ most unique traits is that while it can be played in a one vs. one setting, the game was designed for two on two gameplay. The gameplay of Multiversus is quite accessible and easy to get into while still having lots of room for depth for those who want to master it. If you’re looking for a fighting game to team up in alongside your friends, there are few that can satisfy that need, quite like Multiversus. 8/10 Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2
Answer and Chipp in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 After many years of revising the classic Guilty Gear gameplay, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 is the culmination of over a decade and a half of Guilty Gear titles. Guilty Gear Xrd was the first game to use the 2.5D cell-shaded visuals Arc System Works is known for, and while later games may have improved upon it, Xrd’s visuals have still held up tremendously well all these years later. RELATED: Best Characters In Guilty Gear Xrd The classic Guilty Gear gameplay remains mostly intact, featuring mechanics like roman cancels, unique gatlings, and variable wakeup timings, all while appealing to a modern fighting game audience. Even though Guilty Gear Strive has since come out, Xrd retains a dedicated following, and with official rollback netcode coming out in 2023, the game will remain popular for many years. 7/10 Blazblue Centralfiction
Naoto, Rachel, Ragna, Noel, Hibiki, and Jin from Blazblue Centralfiction Over nearly a decade of releases in the Blazblue series, the final revision of the Blazblue series is one of Arc System Works’ greatest games of all time. The game that was originally positioned as a spiritual successor to Guilty Gear has created an identity of its own and become a beloved anime fighter. Blazblue is a very complex fighting game in which character mastery is a must, as every character requires a deep understanding of how to play. Thanks to the game's signature mechanic, the drive button, every character has a mechanic unique to them, allowing no two characters to feel the same. There really is no game like Blazblue, and thanks to the recently implemented rollback netcode, there has never been a better time to try the game out. 6/10 The King Of Fighters 15
Kyo Kusanagi in The King of Fighters 15 The 15th entry in SNK’s flagship fighting game series is one to remember. The King Of Fighters is a three vs. three game in an untraditional sense, as you select three characters but don’t tag them in and out like other team fighters. Once one character runs out of health, it's time for the next to jump in. This results in matches that may take longer than most fighting games, but it doesn’t make KoF slow, as while you’re playing, you’ll realize it's one of the most adrenaline-rushing games out there. KoF 15 features the best 3D visuals in the series to date, a roster full of iconic characters and newcomers, and rollback netcode for the first time in the series. Previous SNK titles had very undesirable online modes, so this is a very welcome change and makes it one of the best fighting games you can play on Steam. 5/10 Street Fighter 5
Guile warming up in Street Fighter 5 One of the most controversial fighting game releases of all time has blossomed into a fantastic game over the years. It's no secret that on launch Street Fighter 5 was quite disappointing, but with various gameplay changes, the addition of more content, and plenty of creative new characters, the game is now on par with some of the series’ best games. RELATED: Games To Play If You Like Street Fighter Street Fighter 5 is a game that was designed to be beginner-friendly while still maintaining the classic Street Fighter gameplay everyone loves. While it still maintains that identity, there are a handful of characters with more challenging combo routes and game plans that give the game the opportunity to appeal to newcomers and veterans alike. If you were disappointed by Street Fighter 5 on launch, consider giving it another shot, as it has had one of the best fighting game glow-ups in years. 4/10 Tekken 7 Paul Phoenix in Tekken 7
Tekken is the most popular 3D fighting game series that skipped out on PC releases for many years, but that all changed with Tekken 7. Tekken is a series built on its legacy gameplay, and while Tekken 7 plays very similarly to the Tekken titles of the past, it introduces new mechanics, such as Rage Drive and Rage Art, that give it a unique identity. It also features one of the biggest rosters in the series, including classic fan favorites, some welcome newcomers, and guest characters that make for one of the most interesting rosters in any fighting game. For those looking for the best 3D fighting experience out there, Tekken 7 is likely your best bet. 3/10 Killer Instinct
Killer Instinct's Rash and Fulgore staring each other down about to face off Many 90’s gaming series, unfortunately, haven’t seen the light of day since their prime, however, Killer Instinct came back in 2013 and took the fighting game world by storm. The game beautifully brings the classic, over-the-top fighter into the new era, all without sacrificing what makes it special. Featuring the best gameplay the series has ever seen, this is a must-play for classic fighting game fans. Killer Instinct was also the first major fighting game to release with rollback netcode, a trend that took bigger developers years to catch up on and making it one of the most influential fighting games of all time. Killer Instinct is a very special game and one that no fighting game fan should pass on. 2/10 Guilty Gear Strive
Millia Rage's victory screen in Guilty Gear Strive While Guilty Gear Xrd may be the definitive classic Guilty Gear experience, Guilty Gear Strive puts a new spin on the series for the first time since its inception. While many of the changes may shock longtime fans, it still does its best to retain Guilty Gear’s identity while offering new gameplay mechanics like drift roman cancels and stage transitions. It also builds on the previous game's visuals tremendously, offering what may be the best-looking anime fighter to date. Most importantly, Guilty Gear Strive was the first Japanese-developed fighting game to feature well-implemented rollback netcode on launch, ushering in a new era that many other developers have since followed. If you’re looking for a new take on a classic fighting game series with great online play, Guilty Gear Strive is a game you can’t go wrong with. 1/10 Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Ghost Rider, Nova, and Wolverine facing up against Vergil, Strider Hiryu, and Ryu in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 The original crossover fighter returned for its third entry (which was technically its fifth entry) and blessed us with one of the most unforgettable fighting games ever created. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is a game with seemingly endless possibilities, with 50 unique characters, each spanning three different assists; the room for creativity is seemingly limitless. The fast-paced gameplay and chaotic nature have turned it into one of the most fun games not only to play but also to spectate. While we may never get another Marvel Vs. Capcom game, Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is a game that lives up to the series' legendary status and will keep us satisfied for many more years.
